How to Make a Flummie
Recipe for a Traditional Labrador Flummie
The prepared flummie (or bannock) was carried in the pocket by nomadic fur trappers and eaten throughout the day while checking the trapline. This nourishment was enough to carry the hunter untill he reached his next tilt and his next meal.

The basic ingredients were easy to carry into the bush:

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 1½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1¼ cups of warm water

Steps:

  1. Mix all dry ingredients together
  2. Pour water on top of the mixture
  3. Blend mixture together with your hands
  4. Flatten dough into 1cm thickness
  5. Punch in holes with a fork
  6. Cook in well-greased frying pan for 20 minutes

ENJOY!
